After traveling to far Western & Northwest Nebraska Cody & Jorden both knew they needed to establish another location out West which then offered more quality mule deer hunting, resident elk hunting, an abundance of antelope, as well as providing some amazing Merriam turkey hunting opportunities. Once the decision had been made to plant roots out in Northwest & Western Nebraska the Team had never been more excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for both them and their customers.
While Nebraska camp locations where being established and developed we had close friends and customers borderline demand that we look for land in Kansas since we were born and raised South-Central Nebraskan. For Cody, this came naturally as some of his very close farming friends lived in the Northwest & Southeast Kansas areas. Upon learning the ins & outs of Kansas hunting Heartland Pride Outfitters established another hunting camp in Northwest Kansas.
Northwest Kansas is our monster whitetail and mule deer camp along with outstanding populations of wild quail and pheasants plus our prized Rio Grande Turkeys.
Northwest Kansas offers hunting in more open pastureland with large open Ag fields consisting of corn, alfalfa, soybeans, milo, and winter wheat next to smaller wood lines along creeks and rivers. We also have large tracts of land enrolled in CRP programs which grows grass and cover sometimes 8 foot tall which makes for some incredible upland bird habitat and whitetail/mule deer bedding. Northwest Kansas is known for growing large, mature whitetail and mule deer bucks with plenty of age under their belt and producing inches on their heads.
Northwest Kansas Hunts:
Turkey: We are very accommodating to almost all types of Turkey hunters out there. Our Kansas farms & ranches are a great blend to entertain the most die hard turkey hunters. We will run and gun and call when the run and gun and calling is working in our best interest, otherwise if the calling has proved to be ineffective we sit in core, high traffic areas so we aren’t burning up our properties trying to call in uninterested or occupied Toms. Hunting over bait is legal in Kansas too so we do utilize this for those who aren’t opposed to hunting over bait. We also have multiple ground blinds set-up throughout the entire turkey season to use during archery or shotgun seasons. We will also use these ground blinds on rainy days to keep us active and productive in the woods during inclement weather. No matter whether you’re a marathon runner or an immobile turkey hunter looking to bag a bird with us, we will do everything in our power to accommodate your group and style of hunting.
Whitetail: We stay very diverse when it comes to our whitetail hunting. We utilize all types of equipment to harvest these mature giants depending on the farm we are hunting. Millennium ladder stands, Muddy bull blinds, Millennium lock-ons, Barronnett ground blinds, and brush blinds are all used at your comfort. If one isn’t partial to sitting in an open elevated stand, we can always keep them at ground level and comfortable as can be. All HPO elevated stands are equipped with Hunter Safety System lifelines where we keep our customers safe from the ground up to your seat. We offer early season hunting with muzzleloaders & archery equipment as well as November rut hunts and December rifle hunts for whitetails. If you couldn’t tell, whitetail hunting is a major passion of ours and growing mature bucks for our customers is TOP priority each year.
Predators: We utilize calls and decoys to outwit our bobcats and coyotes to coming in close enough for either a shotgun or rifle shot. We hunt our predators hard to keep deer, turkey, and upland bird numbers as high as possible to provide for other hunts. Predator hunting has grown in popularity and always remains one of our favorite hunts to put on for our customers.
Mule Deer: Our typical mule deer hunting strategy is spot-n-stalk which we have efficiently mastered over the years. We also utilize ground blinds to hunt certain areas where blinds are more effective which may include mule deer hitting waterholes on a pattern and in this instance will setup a brush or ground blind to hunt these particular animals. While spot-n-stalking we will get out to vantage points in the morning as the sun rises and start glassing thousands of acres of pasture land and Ag fields. Once we have found the target buck we are after we formulate a plan on how to stalk within shooting range of him and kill him.
Upland Birds-Pheasant/Quail: Our pheasant & quail numbers have been consistently high over the last 5 years and we have been taking full advantage of it! This is a hunt you can package up and combine with a big game hunt or round up a crew of friends and head our direction for Upland Birds only. With thousands and thousands of acres of prime CRP habitat coupled with solid game management, we have been able to successfully keep high bird numbers with very light upland hunting pressure. We have certain fields we will hunt from the start of the season until the end with no deer hunting interruptions but once deer seasons are over and closed, we open up a much larger hunting area to the Upland Bird hunters to take advantage of. At the current moment HPO does not offer Upland hunting with HPO dogs. You’re ALWAYS welcome to bring in your trained dogs or bring a dog just to train. Either way we are going to put you in fields with pheasant and quail alike in them. Kansas also has a greater daily bag limit than Nebraska so we tend to gravitate towards Kansas during most of our Upland Bird hunts.

Our Western Nebraska camp may be one of the most sought after destinations in the State of Nebraska for hunters. In Western Nebraska we operate and hunt on properties that cover the main destinations out west which include the famous Sandhills, North Platte River, Wildcat Hills, Niobrara River, and Pine Ridge Regions of the State.
All of these locations offer different terrain types, features, and game animals. These regions range from our state’s open Sandhill country where no trees are found for hundreds of miles yet littered with mule deer, antelope, coyotes, and prairie dogs; to the Wildcat Hills & Pine Ridge areas of the state which hold great numbers of wild Merriam turkey, mule deer, whitetails, elk, and bighorn sheep. By hunting all three of these areas we are able to offer everything great that our State has to offer in Western to Northwest Nebraska.
Turkey—We are very accommodating to almost all types of Turkey hunters out there. Our Nebraska farms & ranches are a great blend to entertain the most die hard turkey hunters. We will run and gun and call when the run and gun and calling is working in our best interest, otherwise if the calling has proved to be ineffective we sit in core, high traffic areas so we aren’t burning up our properties trying to call in uninterested or occupied Toms. Predator hunting has grown in popularity and always remains one of our favorite hunts to put on for our customers. Nebraska now offers a Mountain Lion season too, please connect with us for more details about this hunt!
Antelope—The Antelope program within HPO has grown rapidly over the last 3 years. By having more antelope and antelope property than we know what to do with it creates the perfect problem for us. The first half of the season is sitting in one of the many ground blinds scattered throughout our Western Nebraska camp concentrated over a windmill pumping water or natural water hole the antelope are used to drinking from. As the rut starts to progress midway through the season we then will start spot-n-stalking these crazy fast animals behind our homemade antelope decoys in the mornings while hunting in blinds in the afternoon during the heat of the day. The combination of these two strategies throughout the season keeps our customers excited for each new day and successful while pursuing the fastest land mammal in North America.
Mule Deer–Our typical mule deer hunting strategy is spot-n-stalk which we have efficiently mastered over the years. We also utilize ground blinds to hunt certain areas where blinds are more effective which may include mule deer hitting waterholes on a pattern and in this instance will setup a brush or ground blind to hunt these particular animals. Once we have found the target buck we are after we formulate a plan on how to stalk within shooting range of him and kill him.
Elk—Very similar strategy as the mule deer, our typical and traditional elk hunting strategy is the spot-n-stalk method and playing the wind. We also utilize the use of ground blinds as well as tree stands to hunt certain areas where blinds and stands are more effective, possibly over a wallow or field where they’ve been feeding frequently. This allows us to be able to accommodate any hunter no matter his physical well being or age. With this very valued Permit in your pocket, we Team up with multiple HPO Guides to make this a successful hunt. The more eyes/ears/experience we have afield with us the better chances we have at finding that Trophy Bull we are after and getting him killed. Elk hunting is another primary focus of HPO, we absolutely live to elk hunt.

This camp is near and dear to our hearts as it was the first Hunting Camp Heartland Pride Outfitters established in 2008 when the company was founded. Turkey Creek is a renown area in Southern Nebraska that has always boasted large flocks of turkey, quality whitetail hunting, and some amazing upland bird hunting all near our hometown of Bertrand where the company is based.
Our Turkey Creek Camp in Southern Nebraska is only 1.5 hours north of our NW Kansas Camp so we are able to offer two World Class hunting destinations between two states within 1.5 hours of each other. These camps offer meals and lodging as well as some incredible hunting opportunities for our customers.
In 2018, Heartland Pride Outfitters purchased “Tracks Across Nebraska, LLC” from Jared Hemelstrand after Jared’s dad, Johnny Hemelstrand passed away after running TAN for 30 some years. This was a very pivotal and exciting time for both Companies as the hunting land and landowner/customer relationships remained at the top of the priority list. Johnny was a very influential man in Gosper County, Nebraska while he was outfitting and his operation was always something Cody had admired as Johnny’s neighbor. Upon Johnny’s passing after living a full life of outfitting hunters we knew that we couldn’t let a great thing go to the wayside so in 2018 Cody & Jared made it a point to keep Johnny’s Legacy alive on Turkey Creek.
